SURFCASTING SEMINAR SET IN PACIFICA

Monday, February 16th, 1987

Pacific surfcasters are invited to a seminar Saturday in Pacifica that is a prelude to the annual Longcasting western regional tournament set March 21.

The seminar is designed to teach the “pendulum” style of casting, a technique first developed in England that can add hundreds of feet to casts. The seminar will be conducted by tournament director Ken Lauer, defending regional champion John Reason of San Francisco, and English distance-casting champ Martin Calvert. It will be held at Coast Side Bait and Tackle, 1604 Francisco Blvd., from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The tournament, on the beach south of the Pacifica Pier, will be one of seven regionals around the country where hundreds of distance casters compete for cash and prizes, culminating in the national tournament in June at Kalispell, Mont.

For more information on either the seminar or the tournament, phone Richard Walton at Coast Side, 415-355-9901; Reason, 408-269-0439; or Lauer, 305-778-0475.
